The king of fruits deserves better: RM1 million worth of heroin found stuffed inside durian shipment

We’ve long claimed that drug dealers were the creatives of the underworld, and one syndicate flexed their local fruit-driven innovation last week by hiding over six kilograms of heroin inside 20 Styrofoam boxes filled with durians intended for export to Hong Kong.

Having been labeled as frozen fruits, the shipment was inspected by Malaysian customs at Subang Airport, where it was discovered the durians had been hollowed out, and their insides stuffed with nearly RM1 million (US$250,000) worth of scag.

Police say that a Selangor investigation team conducted the raid on Monday of last week. A press conference held Friday showed media how the syndicate hid their gear, albeit rather crudely.

It’s not the first time that drug gangs have used foods as disguise, with coconuts, burritos, and faux carrots all having been used in the past in an attempt to pull the wool over the eyes of authorities. And who could forget last week’s Penang teen, who hid MDMA inside iced tea sachets?

After checking the contents of the suspicious boxes, authorities found that 20 percent contained white-colored packets wrapped in clear plastic, containing what they believe is heroin.

A 34-year-old woman who arranged for the shipment of the consignment is now in police remand for five days.

Honestly, a sophomore effort, syndicates. We expected a little bit more than putting your weed in a Big Mac and hoping no one takes a bite.
