Over twenty-four hours later, passengers trying to leave from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) are still being asked to arrive four hours early for their flights, as the technical disruptions of Wednesday nights and all of yesterday have yet to be resolved.
As of this morning, Malaysia Airports is still working to stabilize the system at the airport, and this continues to cause flight delays among passengers trying to complete their journeys.
In trying to manage the situation, the operators have called on 1,000 additional employees to keep things moving on the ground, and opened up 38 remote bays for aircraft at the KLIA main terminal, as some scheduled gates are occupied due to delays.
A perusal of Twitter shows that many members of the public are sympathetic to the situation.
Others are warning fellow travelers to leave more than four hours to get to their gate, as the airport has gone into “manual mode.”
Yesterday morning, twenty departing flights were delayed, according to operator Malaysian Airports Holding Berhad. Today, that figure went up to 68 flights that were delayed as check-ins went manual. MAHB are asking passengers to please check in using their airline’s app if possible.
In a technical systems failure, passenger facing systems including check-in kiosks were rendered inoperable. Other affected areas included the flight information display, baggage handling systems, and Wi-Fi connections.
MAHB expects the matter to be resolved by tomorrow morning.
