A brazen move to smuggle in 3,200 cartons of cigarettes from Malaysia into Singapore without paying taxes ended rather unfortunately for one 34-year-old Malaysian man.
The Sun reports that the man, driving a lorry, tried to slip through the border police’s radar at 6am yesterday morning. A Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officer noticed a few abnormalities while scanning the boxes. The labels read wafer cup cones and chocolate dips, and we’re pretty sure that’s not what they’re calling thousands of Melvus hidden in the back of your truck.ve
Singapore Customs has since taken over.
Should the lorry driver have to pay the amount of duty tax and GST he evaded, he’s looking at a cool US$200,000, plus $15,000 for GST.
Crime never pays y’all.
