A vaccination centre catering to mostly foreign workers has been closed for a day today after videos and photos of crowds and long queues went viral.
The management of the Midlands Convention Centre in Section 7, Shah Alam, also known as PPVIN, will coordinate the area again before it reopens, according to police. Thousands of people believed to be foreign workers were among those who stood in long, snaking queues outside the centre yesterday afternoon.
“It was the PPVIN management who made the decision (on one-day closure),” District Police Chief Baharudin Mat Taib told reporters yesterday.
He also confirmed the authenticity of a video that showed long queues stretching beyond the centre’s perimeter. Most of the people were filmed standing close to each other. The queue was later dispersed by the management and police, according to media reports.
Other vaccination centres in Shah Alam are located in places like the Ideal Convention Centre, Setia City Convention Centre, and Space U8.
