Sessions court sentenced a senior citizen to 12 years imprisonment, along with two whips, after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting an 11-month infant girl.

Sixty-eight-year-old Hashim Karim admitted to the charge, in an incident that occurred at a house in Shah Alam, August 20th, in the afternoon while the baby’s sitter went out to renew her road tax. Hashim, her father-in-law, had been entrusted to look after the girl.

Deputy Public Prosecutor in the case, Aimi Syazwani Sarmin is reported to have told the court:

“The victim is like a grand-daughter to the accused, and he should have taken a good care of the baby … Although he is 68-years-old, he [should not be] spared from being whipped as he is a sexual offender.”

He added that such a sentence was a provision under Section 377CA of the Penal Code, relating to sexual assault via object.

The Star elaborated that at 4pm, on the day of the attack, the babysitter asked her father-in-law to watch over the baby, who was sent to the house for child-minding Monday to Friday by the infant’s parents, while she renewed her car road tax and insurance.

Returning later, she found that the infant was inconsolably crying, and now had blood on her pants. When she bathed the child, she found more blood coming from her private area.

Testifying in court, a gynecological specialist reported that the injuries sustained by the baby were consistent with those of a blunt object being forced into her privates.

Police reported that Hashim confessed his crime to his son, and that this was overheard by a third party.
