Malaysia’s postal service has suspended the postman who allegedly appeared in a viral video slingshotting a dog.

Pos Malaysia said today it was conducting an investigation into the incident while taking the employee off duty. This comes a day after a video showing a motorcyclist in Pos Malaysia uniform injuring the animal at a private property was shared by an animal rights group.

“We have identified the postman in the video and he has been immediately suspended pending the outcome of the investigation,” Pos Malaysia said in a statement, adding: “Pos Malaysia will not tolerate such misconduct from any of our employees and will not hesitate to take stern action, which include termination of service.”

The Malaysia Independent Animal Rescue posted the 21-second surveillance clip yesterday, showing the dog coming to the front gate after the postman arrived at the private property in Kluang, Johor. The postman was then filmed nudging the gate with his vehicle multiple times before targeting it with what appeared to be a rubber band, causing the dog to cower and run away.

A post-incident photo of the dog showed that its left eye was injured
