Two days after a chair was thrown from a block of low-cost, high-rise flats in Pantai Dalam, killing a 14-year-old boy walking below, who was helping his mother carry groceries back from the shop, police are still looking for the suspect. His mother was unhurt.

Authorities have interviewed 31 residents of the flats, and have narrowed their investigations to five persons of interest. They are collecting DNA from the chair, and analyzing each person’s statement in a bid to find the person who committed the grievous act.

Police Commissioner Datuk Mazlan Mansor has added that the case has been reclassified as murder, and that the culprit would face a mandatory death sentence. He pleaded that the public cooperate and facilitate police investigations, without obstruction, or dissemination of speculative information (AKA rumor mongering).

“We urge anyone with information that can help in the case to come forward and contact investigating officers ASP Firdaus Sharil at 012-3388164 or 03-90516222 or DSP Tonny Lunggan from Brickfields district police headquarters at 014-6225262.”

The victim has since been identified as S. Sathiwaran, a Form Three student of SMK La Salle in Petaling Jaya.

Sinar Harian quoted a flat resident describing the event as “a loud thud.” However, the man shockingly added that he “thought it was nothing out of the ordinary, as things are regularly thrown off the building.” It was only after he heard screams that he realized the situation was serious.

Absolutely appalling, and heartbreaking. Let’s hope that S. Sathiwara, and his poor mother who witnessed the murder, see justice.
