Teenager dead after being hit by flying chair, thrown out of apartment high-rise in Bangsar South

A 15-year-old boy is dead after a flying chair from a flat in a high-rise condo hit him Monday night.

The incident occurred at 8:15pm, at the Pantai Dalam low-cost flats in Bangsar South, while the victim stood on the ground floor below.

The victim has since been identified as S. Sathiwaran, a Form Three student of SMK La Salle in Petaling Jaya. He was walking with his mother, 45, and the two had just finished grocery shopping together.

Sources from the Brickfields police station say the case is currently being investigated as culpable homicide, but stopping short of a murder conviction. Suspects have yet to be arrested, nor motive ascertained for why in the world anyone would throw a massive office chair onto unsuspecting passers-by below.

Sinar Harian quoted a flat resident describing the event as “a loud thud.” However, the man shockingly added that he “thought it was nothing out of the ordinary, as things are regularly thrown off the building.” It was only after he heard screams that he realized the situation was serious.

What kind of 1980s New York projects time-warp are these apartment dwellers living in when objects flying off of balconies is commonplace? Here’s to hoping that after they find who did this, they’re able to educate these residents in common sense, and common decency.
