Police clarify that patrol car driving against traffic was rushing TO scene of accident, not cause of it

After a viral clip of a police vehicle speeding against highway traffic went viral over the weekend, Johor state police have released a statement that the car was rushing TO an accident, and was not, as some netizens had suggested, the cause of it.

In the 34-second clip, a police mobile patrol vehicle can be seen speeding in the shoulder lane near Plaza Tol Perling, with its siren and beacon lights turned on in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police added that the officer had followed protocol, and was in fact heading to the scene of a collision between a car and motorcyclist to maintain traffic flow and assist the victim before paramedics arrived.

Witnesses at the scene of the accident, at kilometer 1.5 of the toll road, alerted police, and the MPV, the nearest official to the scene, was then deployed.

After the clip was uploaded to social media, it faced public backlash, with even the individual who recorded the clip shouting over the video that police were to blame for the accident.
