The Facebook clearinghouse of local grievances and motorbike tricks “We Are Malaysians” has outdone itself yet again in the field of member-generated content that will leave you equal parts appalled, perturbed, and feeling like you might actually kinda want to re-watch the delightful Pixar movie Ratatouille.
In that film, as we’re sure you recall, Remy, the Parisian rat gourmand and wannabe chef, who kinda vibes a young, idealistic Jamie Oliver (before bankruptcy and the cruelty of transatlantic school lunch programs killed his soul, of course).
Well, behold, Remy’s Penang-born kindred spirit: a rodent we will name Tom, the tom yam rat, getting his fill from what is allegedly a Bayan Lepas-area hawker stand selling the Thai soup.
In the video, viewed some 21,000 times and purportedly taken at the Zoomic Electronics industrial park, Tom can be seen chowing down on a few chickens that have been hung up for sale, joining the august ranks of famed viral rodents like Pizza Rat, the FamilyMart Rat Family, and, God rest his soul, Whataburger Deep Fryer Rat.
Netizens, meanwhile, were left at a loss for words — and appetite — by the short clip. Well, almost.
“That’s why I prefer home cooked food,” one drolly remarked.
