Molotov cocktail thrown into compound of “drink your own urine” school

The Sungai Petani, Kedah school at the centre of this this week’s controversy of a senior teacher telling non-Muslim primary school students to “drink their own urine” during Ramadan was attacked with a Molotov cocktail.

The improvised incendiary bomb was thrown into the school’s premises at around 10pm last night. The Molotov cocktail impacted with a wall near the school’s security guard post at the entrance.

Kedah CID chief ACP Mohd Bashir Ya told The Star Online‘s Oh Chin Eng that two men, in their 20s and 30s, had been arrested to assist the PDRM in their investigations.

The incident resulted in no injuries.

ACP Mohd Bashir added that the case was being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code, for committing mischief by fire.

On June 21, a senior teacher at the school told non-Muslim students at the school not to drink in front of their fasting Muslim schoolmates, and to do so in the school’s toilets if they felt the need. If they didn’t have water of their own, the teacher told the students to drink toilet tap water or to “drink their own urine”.

The Kedah state government’s exco in charge of education, Tajul Urus Mat Zain explained a day later that the teacher only told the primary school students to drink their own urine “in jest”.

The episode did not amuse Deputy Education Minister P Kamalanathan, who expressed his anger at the teacher’s remarks in a Facebook post to his official page and directed the Kedah Education Department to investigate the matter.

It is learnt that the teacher has been transferred to the Kuala Muda District Education office since Tuesday (June23) until the matter is resolved.
