Where the memes at? The best jokes, comments and asides from GE14

By no means a definitive list, there is A LOT of internet out there, but we’ve done a round-up of the best memes to come out of this year’s 14th General Election, and even taken it upon ourselves to make a couple of our own. SORRY! We couldn’t resist a bit of fun after the emotional rollercoaster that has been the last few days.

Without any further ado, a list of our favorites, in no particular order:

Our election fell in the midst of an Avengers: Infinity War fever pitch. As a result, we ended up not only with a few Thanos-based memes, but also an incredibly solid analogy of Malaysia’s political players as Marvel superheroes.

Please, click through you will not regret this. Also, yes — spoilers ahead.

A lot of Malaysians were worried that a midweek polling date would conflict with their work schedules, and made sure to block the time off.

The campaign period was particularly messy, with Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan fighting it out in the lead-up to the voting date. Meanwhile, the Ismalmic party PAS just sat it out from the side, and plotted how to take the east coast area of Terengganu back.

It was hard to explain to outsiders just how twilight zone-esque the whole situation was for us watching Mahathir run against his former protege Najib. This pretty much summed it up:

Finally, the ballots were cast. However, none of us expected we would need to wait as long as we did to have Mahathir announced as the winner.

Some of us even lost our cool, like one analyst on news network Astro Awani asked the Election Commission what in the world was taking then so long.

The opposition won by a huge margin, and we knew that Mahathir had not come back just to play around: He meant business.

But it was kind of confusing if you thought about it too long.

So long to our dear friend, and former leader Najib.

And a whole lot of people had some ideas about that.

There was a lot to do, and many wondered what would be first on Prime Minister Mahathir’s agenda.

We couldn’t help but wonder about the next election. With a web of former friends to foes and old enemies becoming running mates, we couldn’t help but wonder what the next line-up would look like.

Real talk though — there’s only one this we care about right now, and it’s getting all these damn campaign materials cleaned up.
