Man wanted to sell his wife to settle debts, but hell hath no fury like a woman scorned

A woman was nearly sold by her husband, but thankfully, she was smart enough to escape.

According to Harian Metro, translated by The Star Online, the man had reportedly planned to sell the woman to his friends to settle his huge gambling debts.

The 37-year-old woman known only as Ayu told the Malay daily that she was at her Port Dickson home with her husband when a couple of his friends came over for a visit.

That was when she found out about her husband’s wicked plan.

“One night, he brought them home and while I was preparing drinks for them, I heard my husband telling them that he wants to sell me to them,” she was quoted as saying.

Shocked, the woman reportedly ran out through the backdoor and spent the night at a neighbour’s house.

She reportedly returned home the next day with her family to pick up her son.

Ayu told Harian Metro that her husband, a former civil servant, used to be a responsible and loving person, but he became hot-tempered and greedy after he started gambiling.

“He had stopped for a while after the authorities shut down all the gambling dens in Port Dickson, but once they started operating again, his addiction returned,” she was quoted as saying.

According to Ayu, he initially won big, but a streak of bad luck forced him to pawn off their house, car and even her jewellery.

Ayu has reportedly filed for divorce from her husband.
