The long arm of the Borneo law caught up with a male suspect carrying RM543,000 (US$125,000) worth of narcotics in a sling bag last week. Inside were dozens of Malaysia’s favorite blackout party pills, Eramin 5, and a whole lot of methamphetamine.

Sarawak state Deputy Commissioner of Police Dev Kumar told media that the suspect was a 32-year-old man from West Kalimantan, and that officers believe he was transporting the drugs back to Indonesia.

He was arrested walking along Kuching’s Rock Road at 7:50am on Thursday. Police also believe this was not his first rodeo, and that he may have made the drug transportation trip between Sarawak and Indonesia before.

Inside the man’s sturdy satchel were 10.58 kilos of methamphetamine and 98 Eramin 5 pills. The suspect also tested positive for drugs.

He will be held in police remand for seven days while officers continue to investigate.

Deputy Commissioner Dev has said that this was the largest seizure of drugs found on a single person since 2017, and that 663 Indonesian nationals had been busted over the last two years on drug-related offenses in the state.

To quote the famed rock ‘n’ roll designer Stefan Sagmeister: “Drugs are fun in the beginning, but become a drag later on.”

Except, to quote ourselves, for meth: “Meth is always gross.”
