Man stabs ‘friend’ over being asked to repay nominal debt

A suspect is on the run in Sabah, having stabbed to death 30-year-old Fazrin Ibrahim, after the victim asked for them to repay an RM300 (US$76) debt they owed him. The incident occurred yesterday at 1:15pm, near Lahad Datu.

Somewhat worryingly, photos from the crime scene made their way onto Facebook soon after the incident occurred.

Fazrin was sending his 11-year-old brother-in-law to school at the time, and the young boy witnessed the murder. He describes being asleep in the backseat along with the suspect, who the victim had picked up along the way. Feeling sudden violent movements, he opened his eyes to see his brother-in-law being stabbed from the backseat.

The violent episode caused the driver to lose control of the car, crashing along the side of the road, near a housing area.

At the time, Fazrin was able to run away from the vehicle, along with the young boy. The suspect continued on his rampage at Fazrin, but shortly after, fled the scene.

Having collapsed to the ground, the schoolboy ran to the victim, only to see him profusely bleeding for a massive slash wound to his neck. Screaming for help, local residents took the two to hospital.

Tragically, Fazrin was pronounced dead at the hospital. The boy sustained injuries to his hands.

Police believe that the root of the murder was Fazrin’s request to have his “friend” pay back the RM300 he had lent him. Unwilling to settle his debt, the man instead decided to violently murder him.

Sabah police are on the hunt, and we’re left very, very sad by this story.
