Sunway University has come up with a creative way to encourage social distancing among students – by placing cutouts of their favorite celebrities beside their seats.
In a Facebook post yesterday, the private university shared photos of the celebrity cutouts spotted “sitting” in a classroom and all around the campus.

The caption said: “Our team of Social Distancing Companions have been briefed and are now on duty around the #MostHappeningCampus to keep you company as we continue practicing social distancing.”
The university also encouraged students to take selfies with their famous “friends” once they set foot on campus.
Among these “friends” would be K-pop star Jungkook from BTS, Japanese icon Hello Kitty, and singer-songwriter Taylor Swift.
Local celebrities like singer Siti Nurhaliza and squash athlete Nicole David were also included in the cutout lineup.
The university’s social media post has since received over 3,500 reactions and shared by nearly 3,000 people.
Some of the nearly 2,000 comments appeared to be from students who couldn’t wait to go back to university so they could hang out with their cutout idols.
“Can’t wait to go back to campus and sit next to Jungkook!” Facebook user Vanessa Wong commented.
Other users cheekily suggested the university add more celebrity cutouts, like actors John Cena and Lee Min-ho, and even Jeffrey Cheah, the founder of Sunway University.
Although lectures nationwide were encouraged to continue online until Aug 31, campuses were allowed to open up last week for students who needed access to university facilities.
The Ministry of Higher Education has not yet confirmed the date when universities can operate at full capacity.
