A Malaysian man, Asri Bin Awng, was arrested in Chiang Rai yesterday after snatch the bag of a New Zealand woman.

Whereas the Thais bring to Malaysia the deliciousness that is tom yam, and some pretty great massages, we Malaysians have returned the favor by sending over a snatch thief.

Sorry, Thailand. We have a lot of other great stuff.

Police Sgt Maj Kittidej Khothawee, was directing traffic at the Mae Fah Luang airport intersection, when he saw a woman giving chase to a man, on a bus, who had just taken her bag. The woman has since been identified as Madeline Campbell.

In the commotion, the thief attempted to throw the stolen bag from the moving bus, however the Thai police officer was able to catch up with the bus (fuyoh), and Asri was promptly arrested. He was found with a Bt1,000 (RM127) in his pocket.

The Star reports that Ms Campbell sustained bruises to her knees and arms, having fallen during the chase.

When questioned by police, Asri told officers that he had originally come to Thailand to look for his wife, but was unable to find her, and ran out of cash.

Taking the bus from Mae Sai to Bangkok, he noticed a woman carrying what he observed to be an expensive bag, so he snatched it when the bus slowed at the intersection.

Sounds like a total winner this Asri bin Awng. No idea why that wife of his went all the way to Thailand to disappear. Ahem.
