Malaysian to be executed in Singapore on Friday

A Malaysian, who was found guilty of murder in Singapore six years ago, will be executed on Friday,

The family of Kho Jabing, 31, received a letter from the Singapore Prison Service last Thursday informing them of the impending execution, the Star Online’s Rashvinjeet S. Bedi reported.

His sister Jumai Kho said the family has come to terms with the final outcome.

“A lot of people have tried their best to stop the execution but the country’s laws cannot be changed. That is the will of God,” she told the Star Online last week.

“If there is luck, who knows the execution can still be avoided at the last moment. It’s not easy but we have to accept it. We have tried our best,” she was quoted further.

Jabing, of Ulu Baram, Sarawak was sentenced to death for killing a Chinese construction worker with a tree branch during an attempted robbery.

His case has seen a back and forth since then — his scheduled execution on Nov 6 last year was put on hold the day before following his lawyer’s move to raise points about the manner in which the case was handled.

The Court of Appeal, however, upheld the death sentence in a 3-2 majority decision earlier this year.
