Local quintet recreate ‘Game of Thrones’ music with local and classical instruments

Still reeling over that last episode/last season of Game of Thrones [Ed. Note: Seriously, HBO we need to talk]? Well, let a quintet of Malaysian musicians assuage your crestfallen expectations and ears with their recording of theme music from the blockbuster series.

Mahakarya Studios MY shared their rendition of three popular compositions from GoT, combining both western instruments like the cello and violin, with local Malay ones that included the gambus, gendang and serunding.

The trio of tunes chosen included the iconic opening music, along with House Greyjoy and House Stark, both by Ramin Djawadi.

Initially shared on the Facebook page Movie Addict Malaysia, where it gained wide exposure, the one-minute, 37-second clip has been shared 2,600 times, and watched 77,000 times.

As you can imagine, netizens are full of praise for the reworking, asking where to download, and adding that Ramin himself should have a listen.

We’ll never quite have that ending that we wanted, but we’ll take this.
