A group of illegal workers were caught off-guard by an Immigration officer, after having tried to convince him that they were Malaysian.

They told the officer that there was a confusion, they were Malaysian. He then told the group that if they were Malaysian, please sing the Negaraku (national anthem). When they couldn’t, they were told to join the other detained individuals.

Oh, how we dearly wish that they could have at least feigned it for a bar or two.

The raid, which was covered by local media, saw a round-up of 25 foreign workers in Penang, who were all employed at the same entertainment center at an island shopping mall. They included Bangladeshi, Indonesian, Vietnamese and Indian nationals.

To be Malaysian: you may love nasi lemak, and know we make the best roti canai. You can belanja your friends occasionally, and know your lahs from mas. But if you don’t know the Negaraku … Kantoi.
