Giant ketamine bust at KLIA, no veterinary convention in sight

An Indian tourist, on his first trip to Malaysia, was busted with 8.37 kg of ketamine in his travel bag. Definitely on his way to the annual Association of Asian Veterinarians convention then?

The 38-year old man from Kochi, India came to KLIA on a one-way, Malindo Airlines ticket, and had almost made it into the clear, until he was stopped by the giant airport customs scanner officials occasionally enforce. The drugs were found inside the special compartments of the 54 clutch bags the man had in his possession. At this point, we’re not even going to ask what he was doing with, or how he explained, 54 purses.

Officials in India have tried hard to curb the abuse of ketamine, often referred to by kids and narcs alike as Special K or Vitamin K. Normally used in veterinary medicine as a tranquilizer, it can also be taken by users to experience a dissociative, at times hallucinogenic, state. This is apparently, a great experience. Abuse of ketamine has been known to cause incontinence in just 3 months of abuse, and in some cases, in users as young as 17. Incontinence, to paraphrase a 2006 Paris Hilton, is not cute.

India is known to produce ketamine of um… exceptional vintage, with tons made for the legitimate global market in factories, mainly in the western state of Maharashtra.

The drugs have a street value of RM376,650 and were meant for the domestic market. Customs officials say that a local syndicate was involved in the operation.

The man has since been taken into remand. Locked up Abroad: Malaysia, continues its 1004th season.
