Four IT employees of KLIA operator file police reports over system failure questioning

More developments in the technical systems failure at Kuala Lumpur International Airport two weeks ago that saw dozens of flights delayed, and passengers asked to arrive four hours early: Four individuals who worked for operator Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) have filed their own police reports, after they were called in to questioning by investigators into the matter.

Malay-language daily Utusan reported yesterday that four officers who have worked for MAHB for 20 years in the IT department have been placed on leave while authorities investigate the matter.

In total, 12 individuals have been called in for questioning, as police try to determine what caused the system meltdown, where passenger facing systems including check-in kiosks were rendered inoperable due to technical failure that began on the evening of August 21, and continued into the weekend. Other affected areas included the flight information display, baggage handling systems, Wi-Fi connections, and credit card terminals.

Police have confirmed that four individuals filed reports between August 30 and September 3, but have not elaborated on the matter. A source that spoke to Utusan alleges that they were unhappy over the implication they were involved with a system sabotage, and were taking legal action.

Investigators are looking into the incident under Section 427 of the Penal Code for causing damage through acts of mischief.
