Oh, dear — some unfortunate news from the Sabah Fire Department: Yesterday, officials were called in to assist a man whose right hand had been severed by a meat grinder in Kota Kinabalu.

Nineteen-year-old Mohammad Khan Espirman was reportedly using the contraption Monday afternoon when the accident occurred. Unable to remove his hand, he was rushed to the nearby Queen Elizabeth Hospital with the machine still attached for further assistance. Medical officials were unable to remove the machine themselves, and then contacted Sabah Fire and Rescue.

Images of the man’s harrowing experience have been shared widely on social media, with many mainstream news outlets blurring the gory nature of the accident. We advise extreme caution in clicking through THIS graphic hyperlink.

Receiving the call at 4:11, the fire team arrived at the hospital with special equipment, and after two-and-a-half hours, were able to remove the grinder.

The victim is still recuperating in hospital, with no further details being given at this time.
