Faithful readers, and/or DJ Chriz Ooi fans: Coconuts KL has an update for you. The back-up dancer turned celebrity-DJ has just been fined for his DUI last month. You remember, the one that resulted in an incoherent live-blog to Facebook, recorded and posted by Chriz himself to the social media site, much to his later embarrassment.

The post went viral on social media, and captured Chriz, real name Ooi Kok Wei, telling the police officer that he had not been drinking (he was). He then asked the officer how much he would pay him when he was proven wrong (he wasn’t, and that’s not how it works, Chriz).

Ooi was found to have 84mg of alcohol in his blood levels, which is 4mg over the limit.

Liable to be sentenced to a year-long jail term, the judge issued an RM1,800 (US$400) fine. Ooi’s attorney asked for a sentence “that could serve as a lesson to the accused and society.”

Chriz was not present for the sentencing, but managed to phone it in, asking his lawyer to tell the judge, “I hope the court can give me a lenient sentence.”

Lesson learned: drink, drive, get arrested, embarrass yourself, ask cops if they know what a DJ is while they haul your a** to jail, all for the bargain price of RM1,800 (legal fees not included).

Like sharing an Uber, or Spotify account with DJ Chriz, I think I’ll pass.

Tbt to that arrest vid tho:
