Datuk dies of shock after home burglary

A man died of a heart attack after his home was broken into by burglars on Monday.

According to The New Straits Times, the man – the brother-in-law of actress Fatimah Abu Bakar – and his wife had just returned home after visiting a relative at a hospital nearby when the incident happened around 9.30pm .

Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Sharul Othman Mansor told the daily that the victim’s wife noticed something amiss as the front door of their three-storey bungalow was open and she heard noises from inside the house.

The victim, 72-year-old property businessman Datuk Abdul Haleem Shah Salamat Shah, shouted for help as three robbers reportedly fled the scene.

 “Both of them then went into the house and started checking their master bedroom, before the victim suffered breathing difficulties and passed out.

“A team of medical personnel from Universiti Malaya Medical Centre was rushed to the scene, where they pronounced him dead at 10pm,”ACP Abdul Haleem was quoted as saying.

ACP Sharul added that the burglars broke into the house through a kitchen window after disabling the house alarm system. The burglars also reportedly took a CCTV decoder from the house.

It was revealed that the burglars had ransacked the master bedroom and the office room, and escaped with valuables worth RM60,000.

ACP Sharul told the daily that the case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code.
