Islamic televangelist Da’i Syed has pleaded not guilty to molest and rape charges and is set to go on trial in February.
The 25-year-old, whose real name is Syed Shah Iqmal Syed Mohammad Shaiful Syed Jamalullail, appeared at the Petaling Jaya Court Complex today, where he was accused of raping and molesting a woman at his home on Oct. 17.
His latest court appearance came 13 days after his arrest. Nine police reports have so far been filed against him after a woman outed the former reality TV star on Twitter last month, accusing him of raping her friend.
The charges read out in court said that Syed had allegedly raped and molested a 22-year-old woman at his home in Damansara Perdana between 3am and 5am. Syed pleaded not guilty to both charges and is expected to go on trial Feb. 19.
He was placed on a bond of at least RM20,000 (US$ 4900) with sureties, ordered to report to police on the first day of each month, and banned from contacting alleged victims.
