BBC crew member nearly died from spider bite while shooting in Malaysia

Never forget that while in Kuala Lumpur — we’re always 20 minutes away from an H&M no matter where you are — our country is by and large basically a jungle, with dangerous animals, insects and insanely large crocodiles.

The Daily Mail reported over the weekend that a BBC crew member was 15 minutes from death after being bitten by a spider at an undisclosed location in the jungle while shooting the series Our Girl.

Script supervisor Andrea Bamford soon went into shock, and the medic on the shoot only had paracetamol and antihistamine to treat her. Losing color in her face, and unable to walk, another crew member with military experience recognized she was going into shock. She was swiftly taken to a hospital where doctors told her just how close she had come to death.

Shooting has since resumed.

Y’all, we have over 425 species of spider in this country, and a fair number of them, including the brown widow, can kill with a single bite.
