Pokémon a no-Go in Malaysia, so Malaysians name their own Pokémons

You’ve probably heard the rumour about the release of the insanely popular Pokémon Go game in Malaysia within these couple of days, but we have some bad news for you: Pokémon Go is a no-go…yet!

According to a report by gaming website IGN SEA, representatives from Niantic – the developers of Pokémon Go – said there are no announced plans or a confirmed date of release for countries other than those with official releases.

“The team is currently heads down working on the game. We do not have any announced plans for countries beyond New Zealand, Australia, US and Germany at the moment,” the representative told IGN in an e-mail response.

Pokémon Go, a free-to-play location-based augmented reality mobile game, was officially released in New Zealand, Australia, the US and Germany on July 6 and has since become a global phenomenon.

According to technology site TechCrunch, people are spending more time on Pokémon Go (43 minutes) than WhatsApp (30 minutes), Instagram (25 minutes), Snapchat (23 minutes) and even Facebook (22 minutes).

While we are pretty sure a lot of you Pokémon fans out there are bummed out over the delay, it did not, however, stop some Malaysians from being creative or, in any way, dampen their sense of humour.

On Tuesday, Facebook page MGAG uploaded several pictures onto their page, showing super hilarious Malaysian-inspired Pokémon names.

The photo album has since gone viral, having been shared more than 31,000 times on Facebook.
