Authorities shoot dead five suspects in jewelry store heist, public records most of it

Police killed five men yesterday in a jewelry store heist gone awry at a Jalan Kuchai Lama supermarket.

Shoppers stood back in terror, with some recording the action, as police fired shots at the gang standing at the front of the shop. Four were killed there, while a fifth was shot dead as he was trying to flee in the getaway car. An officer was also injured in the 4pm incident, and is recovering in a nearby hospital, in stable condition. He received a wound to one of his legs.

One witness reported that 20 gunshots were exchanged during the ordeal, and he feared for his life, though he went back inside to see if he could record any of the action.

Local media outlet New Straits Times, reports that police from the Selangor unit were deployed to the scene after the alert of an in-progress robbery. Upon reaching the entrance, city police chief Mazlan Lazim told media that two of the suspects had pistols and fired at officers. At that point, authorities returned fire, killing four of the suspects. After the fifth individual tried to give using one of the group’s car, a Mercedes Benz, police caught up after 400 meters, and killed the suspect.

Inside, all of the stolen items were recovered, as well as two guns, an axe and a parang (machete). Another getaway car, a Perodua Myvi, was also seized.

Identities of the men have yet to be released. All suspects wore motorcycle helmets throughout the heist, and were reported to be wearing police-style reflective vests.
