Amid financial woes, Najib’s son manages to make it to the World Cup Final

Last week, former prime minister Najib Razak lamented that he was not able to pay his daughter’s cancer treatment bills. His entire family’s personal accounts, he cried, had been frozen. He was a man unable to provide, he woefully told reporters, with a single proverbial tear dropping onto the marble floor.

His party even began a collection fund for him. Times are tough.

Sunday night, his son, Datuk Mohd Naziffudin Najib’s fortunes seem to have taken a brighter turn, and he was spotted in the stands at the World Cup Final in Moscow.

Perhaps that cheque finally cleared?

In a family so tone deaf that they make even the worst American Idol candidate sound like Mariah Carey, Najib and his progeny are certainly inventive in looking for new ways to alienate themselves from the public.

Rising cost of living? Former first lady Rosmah feels your pain — her hair stylist’s house calls are now a weekly RM1,200 (US$300). Malaysia’s average monthly salary is RM2,880.

Finding rice pricier than before? Ex-PM Najib isn’t really sure about that — he eats quinoa.

And now, unable to pay even a restaurant bill after a date, his son managed to scrape together enough coins and take his valid passport to Moscow, to watch France beat Croatia 4 – 2 in a riveting match.

Wearing a Ralph Lauren polo shirt because OF COURSE HE DID, he wrote: Croatia versus France. Who do you chose?

Honestly? Either. Anyone. All of them. Just not you.
