After dog found shot dead by arrows on Langkawi, police ask for public’s help

Police on Malaysia’s idyllic Langkawi island are on the hunt for an individual they say shot and killed a dog using a bow and arrow over the weekend.

The incident occurred outside of a convenience store in Dayang Bay that is open 24 hours, and was only brought to police attention after a woman saw a post of the dead animal on Facebook, showing the canine laying on the ground with two arrows on its body.

After the woman lodged a report, officers went to the scene only to discover that members of the public were trying to throw the animal’s body into the nearby sea. Authorities halted the action, and the dog was then sent to a private veterinary clinic on the island for a postmortem.

According to national news agency Bernama, Langkawi island does not have any government veterinary doctors.

While no one has come forward to report a missing pet, police cannot yet rule out if the animal may have been someone’s pet.

Investigators are asking anyone with any information to come forward, including the owner of the original Facebook post, Chen Liau Weng.

The case is being investigated under the Animal Act 1953 for cruelty to animals.
