Three men have been taken into police custody in relation to a case that occurred over the weekend, where a trio impersonating officers are accused of robbing a retail outlet and restaurant in the Brickfields area of Kuala Lumpur. The incidents happened over both Saturday and Sunday.

Aged between 25 and 30, the suspects were picked up at locations in Jalan Klang Lama and Jalan Sultan in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Their modus operandi consisted of presenting themselves as officers from KL’s police headquarters, and inspecting both the licenses of the premises and the documents of the employees present. After doing so, they would then declare the materials insufficient, or lacking, and demand that the proprietors hand over money and valuables to avoid arrest.

In total, the first victim – a retail store owner – lost RM3,800 (US$920), while the second victim, a restaurant owner, lost RM5,000 (US$1,250), a laptop and three mobile phones.

Following a raid on both of the units that the suspects were hiding in, officers seized a Myvi, eight mobile phones, a laptop, and a very on-brand pair of handcuffs.

Investigations into the case continue.
