Gather round lovers of funk, electro, musical duos not unlike Hall & Oates, and everyone else who remembers how genuinely fun nightlife can be: Montreal’s funklordz are coming to The Bee in Kuala Lumpur Saturday, January 26.
Yes, from the same team that brought you Anderson .Paak, aka the best dance and live music performance Kuala Lumpur has seen in recent memory, is doing it all over again, and this time in Publika’s intimate venue, The Bee.
Reader: Remember when you were letting out your heart and soul on the dance floor to Passion Pit, Bloody Beetroots, and uh — Chromeo? Your asymmetrical fringe matted to your forehead, the smell of Marc Jacobs Daisy thick in the air, and the impending argument with a taxi driver on whether to use the meter or not but a distant notion because you were too busy inching Daikanyama’s second floor closer to ground level.
Jagan tipu (don’t lie) — we remember it like it was yesterday.
In the years since putting out their first (and our personal favorite) single, Needy Girl, Chromeo have been busy releasing albums — their fifth, 2018’s Head over Heels being the most recent — never straying too far from their synth roots, but teaming up with everyone from Raphael Saadiq to French Montana along the way.
Malaysia’s own electro duo, Dangerdisko, will be opening and setting the mood, readying us all up for 2019’s first proper boogie: Chromeo, live in KL.
Oh — stick around post-show for a special Chromeo DJ set.
So … we’ll see you there? Yes? YES!
In the meantime, an early Chromeo education, from Coconuts KL:
