The fashion show that drew flak last week is being investigated by the police for possibly breaching COVID-19 protocols.
Police told reporters yesterday it was planning to call up the organizers of the Glorious Raya 2021 fashion show by local brand Leeyanarahman, adding that photos of the event had shown guests without masks and not practicing social distancing.
“Based on the many photos uploaded by the organizer on social media, the guests did not wear masks and there was no physical distancing during the event,” Petaling Jaya police district representative Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood told the press yesterday. He did not mention whether the fashion brand’s founder Nur Liyana Abdul Rahman or her husband-business partner Muhammad Hafiz would be called up.
The event took place March 25 at the Glam Hall event space in Kuala Lumpur. Liyana, 29, reacted to the online backlash by defending that her event had respected coronavirus protocols such as putting in place contact tracing efforts, but it was the guests who had taken off their face masks for photos.
Those who violate COVID-19 regulations face RM10,000 (US$2,500) fines. Malaysia has reported 342,885 COVID-19 cases with 1,260 deaths.
