Malaysian actress Nurul Jannah Muner, or Janna Nick, has apologized for hurting K-pop fans after naming a movie character “Lisa Blackpig.”
The celebrity, who recently debuted a movie the character was featured in, said this in a live virtual press conference this afternoon accompanied by her lawyer Ben Syazmin. The lawyer added that Jannah was also seeking compensation from those who had allegedly defamed her over the fiasco.
“Lisa Blackpig does not represent Lisa from Blackpink in any way,” the lawyer said, adding: “It is a tribute to Lisa from Blackpink as the movie character could never be at the same level as her [Blackpink’s Lisa].”
“We are currently seeking compensation for my client, especially from those who have slandered her on social media and caused a stain on her reputation and losses towards her business,” he added.
Ben spoke through most of the 30-minute briefing. Jannah, 26, only spoke to apologize.
“As the director and producer of Delen, I would like to say sorry to those who have been hurt by the ‘Lisa Blackpig’ caption,” she said.
Teenage romcom Delen premiered on television on Chinese New Year and starred Jannah herself as main character Emily as well as Annie Mosha as the “attention-seeking” antagonist Lisa Blackpig, whose name sounded too similar to singer-rapper Lisa from South Korean group Blackpink.
The character was promoted on Instagram but later deleted after it drew criticism. On Monday, thousands of K-pop fans used the hashtags #JannaNickIsGoingToJailParty and #JANNANICKGOINGTOJAILPARTY.
