Two Saturdays ago, we were invited to just about the only think that will get us out of the house before noon a weekend: A fried chicken pre-party.
Yes, we were lucky enough to sample some of the incredible chicken that will be featured at the upcoming Ayam Lejen 2 event on November 10 and 11 — where ten of the best fried chicken vendors from across the country descend upon the Ara Damansara LRT Station to hawk their wears.
We were there in a New York minute.
Fried chicken, we have long said, is the world’s greatest unifier among meat eaters: Whether it’s American Southern buttermilk marinated, Japanese karage, Korean wings, our mother’s frango à passarinho, or our nation’s beloved ayam goreng — if you eat chicken, you probably love fried chicken, and so do your friends, fam, and foes.
Let’s get this out of the way: Everything we ate that Saturday was delicious, and it made our hearts weep to know that even greater things (more, more, more!) were to come.
That weekend is now upon us, so dear reader please, come join us as we throw caution to the wind and the constricting nature of our jeans, and indulge in lejen-dary chicken from hawkers around the Klang Valley, Penang, and Johor.
Organized by one of Malaysia’s longest running food websites, FriedChillies.com, they’ve hand-picked each vendor, bringing back old favorites, as well as new faces who have already left their mark on the fried chicken scene.
What you need to know: Each piece of chicken is being handmade with all the love and care you would expect from all self-respecting chefs and cooks. That being said, space is limited — tickets are being capped at 1,500 each day so as to not overwhelm the vendors, and keep things fresh.
Entry is Rm5 and includes a drink. Ayam Lejen 2 is partnering this year with BOOST, the payment app, so all transactions are cashless. Download it, and top up your wallet.
We’ve heard rumor that the Horlick’s chicken uncle is gonna be there — that’s probably where you will find us. See you in line.
When: November 10 & 11, 11am – 6pm
