The classic cheesecake is the treat that unites both dessert and cheese lovers. While most cake recipes usually follow the “don’t burn it rule” and demand that bakers ensure a nicely risen center, this Instagrammable beauty that is the burnt cheesecake comes with instructions that say otherwise.

The burnt cheesecake popular among home bakers these days appears to rebel against traditional baking tropes with it’s dark, burnt exterior, and concave center. Inspired by the 1990s Spanish Burnt Basque cheesecake recipe that combines cream cheese, cream, sugar, eggs, and flour, the burnt cheesecake took the world by storm last year due to it’s soft, molten appearance, and of course, photo-worthiness.

Cafes and dessert parlors across Kuala Lumpur have been adding the sensational dessert to their menus recently, some with bold twists. Check out these seven places for you to indulge in a slice or two of this fluffy, caramel goodness.
