Friends of a woman who allegedly died at the hands of her husband claim she wanted to file for divorce more than six months ago.

Huang Ling, 40, was declared dead at the hospital on Wednesday afternoon after her husband, a 57-year-old surnamed Law, called the police claiming she had attempted to commit suicide.

Law was arrested on suspicion of murder after police found a knife wound in her back, and a fruit knife in a trash can near the stairwell of the couple’s apartment in the Nam Shan public housing estate.

According to Ming Pao, Law returned to crime scene at 3pm yesterday with more than 20 police officers for a police reconstruction of the alleged murder.

Neighbors of Huang told HK01 that before she died, she had warned them to be wary of Law as he had become mentally unstable after refusing to take western medicine, maintaining he only wanted traditional Chinese treatments.

One neighbor, surnamed Kwan, said that Law was admitted to hospital a few months ago, and was believed to be suffering from a mental illness. She said he hadn’t worked for more than 10 years, and that Huang wanted a divorce six months ago.

Another neighbor, surnamed Wong, told the website that Huang revealed to them that her husband was refusing to take his psychiatric drugs, and warned her neighbors to watch out for him and to call the police if he harasses them.

Huang’s three siblings were also at the housing estate yesterday morning to collect the deceased’s belongings, and Huang’s youngest sister can be seen in a video report by HK01 collapsed on the floor crying “she got married in Hong Kong and now she’s dead.”

The victim’s three siblings said she had not been the victim of domestic violence before.

It is understood that Huang came from Boluo County in Guangdong province, and met Law while she working as a waitress in Shenzhen.

The couple have two sons aged 10 and 16, and both are believed to be in the care of social services now.
