New dash cam footage from Hong Kong gets posted online on a daily basis and, often, it prompts questions like, what were they thinking?

That was pretty much the sentiment that surrounded this clip of a family of three failing to look as they crossed the road in Central, leading to a collision which could have been even worse.

In the video, posted to several traffic and road-related Facebook groups in Hong Kong, a white car can be seen driving along Garden Road. As it reaches the entrance of St Joseph’s Church,  the driver spots the family of three — a man, a woman and a girl — and immediately swerves to try and avoid hitting them.

Bystanders can be heard screaming in the background as the family get knocked over.

The man immediately gets up and picks up his daughter and the suitcase, while the woman is still lying on her front.

The incident — which prompted comments online such as “are these people trying to get killed?” — reportedly took place at around 5pm on Easter Sunday.

According to Apple Daily, the driver of the white car is a 60-year-old man surnamed Mok.

The family are Japanese, and a 47-year-old woman and an 11-year-old girl had to be sent to the hospital after for treatment.
