Popular ride-hailing app Uber will stop offering its two of its local services next week. UberVAN, which allows users to hail minivans, and UberTAXI, which allows users to book “regular” taxis through the app, will no longer be available starting next Monday (Sept. 5).
A spokesperson for the company confirmed the news with Ming Pao and said its UberBLACK and UberX services – which offer luxury and budget private cars, respectively – would not be affected.
The spokesperson cited low demand for UberVAN and UberTAXI in Hong Kong for the decision, and stressed that the company had no plans to cease operations in the city.
Last week, reports surfaced that Uber would be withdrawing its service in Macau completely after 300 of its drivers in the gambling hub were said to have been fined MOP1 million (HKD971,000).
