A police officer has died after he was hit by a truck on a highway in East Kowloon in the early hours of this morning.
Apple Daily reports that traffic police officer had stopped a Mercedes Benz at the East Kowloon Corridor towards Tsim Sha Tsui at around 4:45am
According to the newspaper, the Mercedes crashed into a road sign when it reached the Chatham Road North junction. No one was injured in that incident.
At around 5:24am, a truck that was approaching the fast lane of the highway slammed into the police car and the police officer that was standing next to the vehicle.
Paramedics were immediately called to the scene where the officer was found lying face down in the middle of the road with a trail of blood near his head (warning: the video in this link contains images that some readers might find upsetting.)
The officer was declared dead at the scene, and the truck driver, reported by on.cc to be 59-years-old, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.
According to Apple Daily, the police officer was married with one child, and his brother was also a police officer.
