Police have arrested a Thai national believed to be the roommate of a woman whose naked body was found on a rooftop in Hong Kong, though they have not as yet connected her to the woman’s untimely death.
The deceased, a 50-year-old woman surnamed Wong, was found by a worker carrying out renovations at a restaurant in To Kwa Wan in Kowloon on Thursday morning.
Local media had initially reported that Wong lived on her own in one of the apartments in a residential block that overlooks the rooftop where her body was found. This morning, however, several outlets are reporting that she lived with a 40-year-old Thai woman, who was arrested in Happy Valley yesterday morning.
The woman is reportedly accused of using Wong’s identification documents in order to work in Hong Kong.
Apple Daily reports that police have detained her on suspicion of overstaying her visa and “obtaining pecuniary advantage by deception.”
Wong’s death, meanwhile, is still being treated as a “corpse found” case as coroners are still trying to determine the cause of death.
Wong was last seen entering the building where she lived on Wednesday, April 24, but was never seen coming out.
Officers who searched her apartment found nothing had been stolen, and there was no sign of forced entry.
