Police have arrested a 48-year-old man over the hours-long rape and robbery of a 22-year-old woman in Kwun Tong on Sunday morning.

Police traced and arrested the suspect in Sau Mau Ping early this morning after he attempted to withdraw money using the victim’s stolen bank cards from an ATM, Apple Daily reports. It’s also reported that the bottled water he allegedly used to rinse the victim’s genitals of DNA evidence after raping her was only available in vending machines at sports centers, according to Oriental Daily.

The 48-year-old, surnamed Lam, was said to have an extensive criminal record for acts of theft and robbery.

According to police, the offender snatched away the student’s iPhone, ID card, and two of her bank cards.

After escorting Lam to his home at Sau Mau Ping Estate this morning, police seized some wet items of clothing and three smartphones, two of which were iPhones, as evidence. It is unclear whether the suspect was trying to remove the DNA evidence by washing the clothes he had worn during the crime.
