UPDATE: Police say they’re still investigating the cause of death of a 21-year-old woman found at her Tseung Kwan O flat on Monday night.
At a press conference today, senior Inspector Lo Man-fai of Regional Crime Unit Kowloon East told reporters that officers had not ruled out suicide.
Lo said investigators had taken a computer and mobile phone from the apartment as evidence, and that they will also look into a number of factors including the deceased’s mental and physical health, and if there were any financial problems.
The woman, surnamed Cheung, had strangulation marks on her neck and head injuries, according to multiple reports this morning.
Apple Daily reported that officers are viewing CCTV footage from Kwong Ming Court apartment in to search for clues.
The discovery of the body was made by the woman’s mother about 8pm last night, the SCMP reported.
The newspaper also quoted police sources as saying the victim was found with a plastic cable tie on her neck, and there was a large amount of blood in the living room and toilet.
Sources also told the SCMP that the front door as locked but the gate to the home was open, while there were no signs the house had been ransacked.
Distraught by the discovery, the woman’s mother was taken to hospital, Ming Pao reported.
According to Apple Daily, the deceased was a form six student at a secondary school in Tai Hang where she reportedly had a good academic record, and that her parents had separated.
The SCMP also reported the victim was understood to be a secondary school student, something a police source said was “quite unusual” for someone of her age.
