Police find missing granny, piggyback her back to old people’s home

The image of Hong Kong’s police force has taken a hit in the years since the Umbrella Movement, with convictions for police brutality, poor public reviews and a sharp uptick in false allegations against officers.

But every now and then, there are heartwarming moments of good old-fashioned public service by the men and women in blue to remind us of all the good cops on the beat.

And while there’s arguably no greater public service than helping an old lady cross the road, these two officers in Tun Mun went the extra mile, literally.

According to a Facebook post, the pair, a uniformed cop and a plainclothes officer, found a grandmother who had been reported missing and helped her home like true gentlemen.

“Responding to a Police report, the officers on hand to help found that the old lady lived in a nursing home and offered her a piggyback ride,” the post read.

The photo understandably drew a flurry of “thumbs ups” and calls of “good job” and “support the Hong Kong police” from netizens. Some used the opportunity to praise Hong Kong police as better than officers from other countries.

Still, these officers having nothing on Ifzal Zaffar — a local officer of Pakistani descent who speaks Cantonese and Urdu — who talked another Pakistani man out of committing suicide this year.
