A piece of ceiling came crashing down onto a train platform in Diamond Hill MTR station late afternoon Tuesday.

Commuters were seen standing meters away from the fallen slab on the Tuen Ma Line platform in a viral picture that circulated online. The area near Car 6 was cordoned off for about two hours, during which workers did temporary repairs on the ceiling and taped over the hole with a white sheet.

MTR staff are investigating the cause of the collapse, according to Stand News.

Police arrived at the station but no follow-up action was required as no one was injured and train service was not interrupted.

Coconuts has also reached out to the MTR for comment but has not received a response at the time of writing.

The Tuen Ma Line began serving Diamond Hill station last February as part of the line’s first opening phase.

In February, chunks of loose cement fell from the ceiling near the escalators in Central MTR station. Nobody was injured.
