Hong Kong’s bomb squad was called in yesterday after a suspected explosive device was spotted near the headquarters of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.
Officers rolled onto the scene in full gear and armed their handy bomb disposal robot after a street sweeper reported something super dodgy-looking near the Central waterfront building at around 9am.
On closer inspection, however, it turns out the “bomb” was in fact made out of foam wrapped by a dozen or so firecrackers, tied together with electrical wire and attached to a toy gun.
According to Apple Daily, it resembled a prop from Stephen Chow’s 1995 movie Out of the Dark (see above).
Fair play to the street cleaner though. We would have been fooled too!
