A motorcyclist died and his passenger was injured this morning after they crashed into a truck being used by a film crew shooting a mock motorcycle accident for a television show nearby.
According to reports, the crash occurred about 900 meters from a location near the Kwai Chung Container Terminal that was being used by local broadcaster RTHK to film a car accident scene for the TV bio-drama A Wall-less World.
The series tells the story of handicapped rock climbing athlete Lai Chiwai, and the scene being filmed portrayed the protagonist being hit by a car while riding a motorbike, the collision that left him a paraplegic.
At about midnight, with filming underway, two men on a motorcycle collided with a truck rented by RTHK to carry and store materials for the shoot.
Sing Tao Daily reported the men failed to see the truck after it stopped in the lefthand traffic lane as it prepared to make a turn.
The two victims, both in their 20s, struck the back of the vehicle and were thrown from the bike, which was thrust underneath the truck.
The pair were taken to hospital, where the driver was confirmed dead. The passenger arrived at the emergency department conscious, it was reported.
The driver of the truck was arrested at the scene and is under investigation for dangerous driving.
In response to questions from Apply Daily, head of RTHK’s corporate communications unit Amen Ng Man-yee said the broadcaster had applied for the road to be closed during filming.
Ng said the crew had enlisted the police and fire services to assist with the shoot and there was an ambulance waiting on scene. He expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
