Minivan flies out of Choi Hung multi-storey car park and crashes onto street

At 7:40am today, a minivan flew out of a carpark in Choi Hung Estate and landed on Tse Wai Avenue.

The front of the vehicle smashed into a street railing, while the back of the van stayed suspended in midair as its rear tires got stuck behind a different railing.

Apple Daily reports that the driver was hospitalised and investigations are underway. Sources at the scene reported that the driver had just bought the minivan last month, and may not be used to driving it yet.

It is suspected that the driver mistakenly stepped on the accelerator while searching for a free parking space.

This is the third such incident of a vehicle flying off an above-ground-level car park in Hong Kong this year.

In January, a pyjama-clad woman drove her car off the third floor of a Tuen Mun carpark and landed upside down on the pavement.

In March, a 76-year-old doctor rammed his two-week-old Mercedes into an empty Volkswagen, knocking it off the first floor car park and onto the street.
