A man who dropped his iPhone into the harbor was miraculously reunited with it, thanks to a stranger on Facebook who saw a post for help and volunteered his diving skills.
Kelvin Lee, the man’s friend, posted on his behalf in a group for Tai Po residents Tuesday evening. He said that the phone fell into Tolo Harbor as the owner was getting off a boat.
“I wonder if anybody could help? Maybe someone who knows how to dive[?] Many things on the iPhone have not been backed up,” Lee wrote.
He attached a satellite image and photo showing the exact area—along the Pak Shek Kok Promenade at the Science Park—where the phone was dropped.
The next day, Lee was back in the Facebook group with good news. “Thank you to my friends in the group. We really got it back,” he wrote, adding two tearful emojis.
Pictures he posted showed a man in the harbor, wearing a wetsuit and strapped with an oxygen tank, brandishing the still-functioning phone in one hand and flashing a victory sign with the other.

The owner wrote in a post that the phone was not fitted in a water-resistant, and he expected that the phone would be dead as it had been submerged for nine hours.
According to Now News, the owner took the hero diver out for a meal to say thank you.

In the Facebook group, netizens hailed the diver for stepping up to the task despite the windy and rainy weather.
“It turns out that nothing is impossible,” one person commented on the post.
